How to Help

Like all such organizations, tuitions only cover part of the costs of running the sailing program so contributions and volunteers are an essential part of the organization's success.   And this is particularly true for the CLS since we strive to keep very reasonable tuitions.

During last year’s silent auction fundraiser, several of our junior sailors took turns at the microphone to express their excitement about our sailing classes and racing.  Everyone present was truly touched by these students’ sincerity and enthusiasm in thanking the adults at the auction for their support.  One of these students said, "I am so excited about being able to participate in races."  Another teen said,  "I hope to sail competitively in college."

Their enthusianm was also a key to get a $8,000 grant from the Petoskey Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation for a new, far more efficient motor on a safety boat.

There are many ways to help.

First of course financial and in-kind contributions are essential.   As a 501(c)(3) organization, all contributions are tax deductible.

First is to make a contribution here:

Second, mail a check made out to Crooked Lake Sailors to P.O. Box 195, Oden Michigan 49764.

And for in-kind donations of boats and equipment please contact Executive Director Skip Magrum at 231-330-5849.

Our Biggest Fundraiser is the Silent Auction which will be held this year on Friday July 21 at the Crooked Lake Yacht Club.  Information on the fundraiser is Here

Another fun Fundraiser is the Poker Run to be held on Sunday July 9th with an Ice Cream Social after the run.  Information on this fundraiser is Here.

Volunteers are need to help get the boats ready for the season, bring them in after the season, and to help during the season.  Also volunteers are needed to staff our fundraisers.

And finally we also are looking for Board members.

Again, this program, which is enthusiastically appreciated by the students themselves, cannot exist without your support.
